Sinclair's

Sinclair's

A richly textured fresco photo-collage by Jack Lloyd, celebrating Sinclair's Oyster Bar and the historic Shambles Square in the heart of Manchester.

Dating from the late 17th century, Sinclair's began its life as a punch house before becoming an oyster bar in 1845. Following the 1996 Manchester bombing, the building was carefully dismantled and reconstructed near Manchester Cathedral, preserving an important part of the city's architectural heritage.

The composition brings together Sinclair's distinctive black-and-white façade, surrounding Victorian architecture and the imposing presence of Manchester Cathedral.

Using a distinctive fresco photo-collage technique, overlapping photographic imagery, distressed textures and softened architectural details create the appearance of an aged, weathered surface, reflecting the building's remarkable history and enduring place within Manchester's changing cityscape.

The Fresco Series draws on the texture and surface of aged walls—layered, worn, and quietly expressive. Built through photographic collage, each piece reflects time passing through materials, where fragments, marks, and subtle shifts in tone come together to form a balanced, considered composition.

The finished works carry a distinctly painterly quality, with depth and surface detail that echo traditional frescoes while remaining rooted in a photographic process.

Each piece I create is constructed through a process I think of as digital weaving—layering fragments of imagery to build a single, cohesive narrative.

This work draws on the streets and architecture of Manchester, combining structure, texture, and light to create something that sits between photography and fine art.

The process

Every artwork begins with original photography, capturing the architecture, textures, details and character of a place. These photographs are carefully selected, layered and digitally composed to create a distinctive photo-collage, bringing together different perspectives into a single, intricate composition.

Each finished artwork is printed in-house using professional Epson pigment inks on Hahnemühle fine art paper, chosen for its exceptional quality, texture and archival properties. A specialist Hahnemühle UV protective coating is then carefully applied to provide additional protection against light and environmental exposure.

Finally, each print is individually inspected and, where required, professionally framed in-house using carefully selected materials and techniques, ensuring a beautifully presented artwork made to be enjoyed for years to come.
